I have contacted a number of HVAC people (Trane, Carrier, Bryant) and from the advice I received here in a previous post the guy that had all the right answers and most recommendations deals only in York. My electician recommended against York (no explanation). Is York as good as the rest or just okay and take my chances with using York?

I don't know anything about York. Try this. Ask your electrician what he thinks about the typical wiring done by the typical HVAC contractor. Then ask him if he thinks you should take an electrician's advice about an HVAC issue?
Rman,
From time to time, I see York products submitted in lieu of what I called for on the job. My HVAC specifications allow for "equivalents" to be submitted and I have compared York products, on a technical, detail by detail basis to Trane, Carrier, Bryant, Heil, ICP and others. They are cheaper in almost all respects. The cabinet metal is a gauge thinner, the coating (paint) is just a little cheaper, the comprssors and coils are usually close to equivalent (on paper), the overall product comes close to but doesn't actually cut corners. I did not ever reject York products on a job. I would not recommend them, on the other hand. I would recommend that you go with the installer that suits you best, that has the best reputation. Check references. In my opinion, Trane and Carrier are better products, however, not if the installation or support is lacking.
