I have seen good forum postings comparing I joists to open web joists but would like feedback on the following:
can anyone compare “Trim Joist open web floor joists” to “Tri Force open joists” I am particularly interested in the rectangular opening available in the center of the joist with Trim Joist and wonder if there are any downsides to this brand. Eric

In my experience a rectangular opening can contribute to floor vibration. I'm not a fan of them.
Hi there,
the rectangular opening in the center of the joists is, indeed, really appreciated. In fact, you can also have it with the triforce.
For the vibration issue, you can simply add strongback ! They are cheap and they can virtually eliminate vibration as they tie the floor together, giving it strength and stability. ;) See the image below and we also have a blog post on that topic : http://www.openjoisttriforce.com/cantilevers-best-practices-with-open-joist-construction/
For the comparison trim joist vs triforce, note that triforce doesn't use any metal plate connectors and avoid cracking and risk of damaging ducts, pipes and wires.
The documentation is right here : http://www.openjoisttriforce.com/open-joist-triforce/documentation/
Voila! Hope this help!
