I am trying to find an article that discusses particulars of installing a composite deck. I would like to find out the pros/cons of square edge vs. grooved. Joist recommedations seem to agree on 16″ Should that be doubled? Also I really like to find out a head to head comparison of brands especially regarding longevity and looks as in: the Mustang is faster but the Corvair looks cooler after 40 years. Trex vs Veranda?

Squre edge is usually installed with face screws but I use the Camo system of toe screws and think it's faster than using grooved boards as well as cheaper. 16' spacing is okay for 1 1/2" and 5/4" but not for 3/4". Stairs require 12" for 5/4." I can't really compare but haven't used Trex in years as I like others better. There are lots of brands now and I'd be more concerned with having a good dealer.

Can you perhaps toss out some names that I can look for around san bernardino.
Certainly. Azek is very popular, Evergrain, Fiberon, and TimberTech are all pop[ular chices but there are dozens more. Veranda ( Home Depot) is a less expensive choice that I've used on very small projects a few times and really had no issues with it.
