I am preparing to put a deck on my house. It is modest size, 20’x24′, and one level. I have built decks before, but I have never used the new composite decking material that is now available. There are many manufacturers and styles to choose from and I’m having a hard time figuring out which one is the best quality. Does anyone have any input on what brands are good and which ones to stay away from? Any advice for a guy who has not worked with this material before? Anything you can pass on is greatly appreciated!

Trex is the best value for your money. It sells here for about $1.60 per foot.
Trex is easy to work with,it is quiet to walk on, and installs well with Fastap poly 2 fasteners.
I've installed the plastic "carefree" and "Ewood" and I don't care for either. The carefree expands and contracts about an inch in the course of a day. Ewood melts on your blade when you cut it and the space between the boards is 1/2".

I have done two large projects using Timbertech, tounge and groved ( hidden fasteners) I would use it again and again. About $5.00 sq ft for decking and an outrageous $5.00 lin ft for the fascia board. Both projects are about 3 years old, the stuff looks great, have had no problems, easy to install, simple to maintain. I just add a cup of swimming pool chlorine and half cup of trisodium phosphate to gal of water, mop it on, rinse it off with a hose. The results are tremendous. Check out their web site.
Marko,
I know that your post is a month old but I just saw it. I think Trex is the way to go. If you want some tips on installing it do an advanced search for post #20350.2
