A question to all, the compound or slding compound miter saw?
My boss’s old ELU (B&D) is getting harder to keep aligned, the armature sticks etc. It’s getting tired, and he’s not sure which type of saw to buy. I own the 12″ Dewalt compound and I think it’s a great saw, but I’ve never used a sliding compound. I can see advantages, but do they add up to double the money?

If this is a tool that gets much use for various projects, yes its worth the $. If you break it out to cut basic mouldings from time to time, no its not.
Id recomend the Makita for finish work, the Hitachi for framing. Both are great saws.

Yes we use it everyday, for trim, (case, base &crown) board &batten siding, decks etc. We have a local tool store that supplies Dewalt and is also a repair centre, so that is what we tend to buy. I've used the Hitachi 81/4 " sliding and I didn't care for it that much. Makita is a very nice saw, but haven't used one much.
