I just bought a Hitachi EC119 compressor and pulled it out of the box for the first time yesterday. I noticed a something rattling inside the tank! Is this normal, nothing to worry about or dangerous? I didn’t use it just in case and I’ll call Hitachi but wondered if anybody else might have an opinion. Thanks

There should be no rattle insidethe tank. Take it back for a another compressor.

Could be nothing.
Might be nothing but a temporary plug used to keep the tank clean until it is mated to compressor.
Most vehicles have such temporary plugs, typically plastic, in their transmissions where they sit harmlessly. They are too big and the wrong shape to clog the filter. Last transmission I drained had a one of these plugs and I was a little concerned until I found out what was going on. In that case no problem.
Does this apply to your compressor? I don't know but it might be the case. You might try their technical support line and reading the manual closely to see if this is mentioned. Odds are if it is common to all the same model others have thought it might be a problem so you might also try the manufacturers web site FAQ.
Another source of information might be the manufacturers service center in your area. Most manuals seem to have a list of service centers with phone numbers. Seems worth a call.
sounds like a test plug is in there. I bet it is just fine.
