I wonder how to get a beautiful finish for a concrete slab that I would leave as the floor finishing. I would like to get a look similar to the concrete counter top I have seen in past issues of FineHomebuilding. So, what kind of concrete blend to use, what acid to use, how to proceed, and the rest. Actually, the concrete slab already exists but I would pour concrete over it to make the final floor. So, can I put a 0,01″ polyethylene between both and how thick (I want it as thin as possible) the additional slab need to have to avoid too much cracking (I would install a square pattern 3’x3′ of aluminum extrusion for control joint).

Considering how permanent this will be, the best answer is find someone who knows how to do it & watch them do it. Then pay them. Then you'll know. And then it'll be done.
Or go here. http://www.acid-stain.com/ for plenty of info. Joe H
