I am in the process of building a 40′ x 24′ socket systems workshiop. I got the mateirals for the budling before they went out of buisness. The framing is up and I am preparing for the concrete pour.
The workshop will be just that a workshop with a parking area for my tractor.
I have an identifcal building I compelted some 10 years ago and was just researching what I need to prepare for the concete pour. I will have a professional finsiher pour the concrete.
My prevous pad had wire mesh and crack inducers. I used concrete with embeded fiber from the local concrete supplier and it was poured by a local person and I was very pleased with the reuslts.
My questions, a web search found this forum and someone elses question about wire mesh vs rebar. Based on that discussion, I intended to not use either.
But what I cannot find information on is what I bleive are refered to as “crack inducers”. I used them on my first pour but researching on the web has not provivded any real information on the need for them.
So, are crack inducers still needed and what type should I use?
the pour will be a single pour 24′ x 40′ and 6 inches think (a change from 4″ based on information from this forum).
Thanks in advance for your help.

Yes, Each time I have had concrete delivered ,both for my first slab and for a couple of footers, I have to remind the truck driver to not add water.
Instead I have asked and paid for another chemical that is suppose to allow the concrete to "flow" and level out naturally.
Even though I asked for it when I order the concrete, I have to ask them to add it when they get here. Both times I was pleased with the way it flowed and sort of leveled itself.
When I did my orginal serach, it was brownbag's comments that caught my eye. His respone regarding wire mesh vs rebar and the use of the fibergalss being the best thing since sliced bread indicated that he knew what he was talking about.
I used wire on my frist 24 x 40 pad and watched the finisher walking throgh the concrete pulling up the wire with a tool. That and the fact that while they were wating for the concrete to set they acuatally sharpened their tools led me to believe they did know what they were doing. Too bad he is not doing "pours" anymore.
So 6" thick and fiberglass added. No rebar or wire and no crack initiators. And use a "superplasticizer" to be added at the job site.
