I live in an 1,100 sq ft ranch where the concrete slab is cracked in many places. The structure of the foundation is block and in very good shape, but the slab has cracked away from the block in many places. I am considering removing the existing slab and pouring a new one. The benefit besides a level floor, is the opportunity to replace plumbing and add radiant floor heat. I plan on living in the house. Would appreciate any input.

The inside slab? No basement?
How can one even think of replacing it? Haven't you inside walls, cabs, furniture and stuff?
It's built in the 1940's and in need of remodeling.
It's a slab, no basement...
It seems impractical to me to tear down and start over when the foundation is good and the walls are sound.
Your best bet is to replace it. Slabs from the 1940 era were not installed that great to start with, trying to patch IMHO will leave you with a bad slab with patches, plus you won't have any way to do your plumbing up-grades. Lots of luck.
