I have a few broken concrete roof tiles that I’m replacing. One on the top row has been a bit of a challenge. The top of the tile was covered with mortar (see first photo – the ridge tile to the right has been removed and what is visible is usually covered by it). After using a cold chisel to get the top of the broken tile out, I ended up with a couple cracks in the remaining mortar as well as a broken edge in the adjacent tile (see second photo). My questions:
1) Is there a convenient sealant, other than new mortar, that will work well in this application to overlap the top of tile and cover the cracks? It will be mostly covered by the overlying ridge tile but may have some UV exposure. It will experience > 100 degree temperature most summer days. Obviously it needs to adhere to both the old mortar and the concrete tile.
2) Rather than chiseling the old mortar out, is there a more elegant approach I could have used – a small, hand-held power saw of some sort, perhaps?
3) My replacement tiles are scarce. Is there an adhesive that is suitable for repairing the minimally damaged tiles?
Thanks in advance for your help.

RT-600, I believe it is made by OSI, any good roofing supply should carry it, even my Home Depot does, it comes in a caulking tube, it works great to glue broken tiles back together. Try a grinder with a diamond wheel to help remove the mortar. Tile grout mixed with mortar mix is good for matching the color of the old mortar, or you can get some oxide at a concrete plant to dye the mortar mix. Good luck with the repairs, you will be amazed what you can glue together with the RT-600, if you are really stuck with needing some more tiles, find some in the same profile in a different color and paint them before you put them back on the house, or take some from another area on the roof where you can't see them and use the wrong colored tiles in those places.

If you can't find any locally, I've got an open box of red that I'll part with.

OSI sells roof tile adhesive in several different colors to match various tiles. I found the terra cotta to be a perfect match for spanish clay tiles. might be pretty close to your tile color.
BruceT, Cu, Verojeff - thanks all for the suggestions. After several calls to manufacturers and visits to supply shops I wasn't able to find the products you mentioned. Flexim looks convenient but I just needed a small bit. Two shops in my area carried and recommended "Rain Buster 850 Ultra-flexible Roof Tile Adhesive/Sealant", a "poly-carbamate", which I ended up using. Seemed to work well. Attached is an "after" photo.
thanks again!
Nice work, looks like you were never there.
Looks great. I'll file that product away for future reference.View Image
