hey everyone, im a long time builder whos new to owning my own business and placing bids.
ive been doing decks and remodels while i get things going and recently landed my first framing contract.
the guy wants me to include exterior dropped soffits for my flat sqft price.
but all the time i was framing i dont ever remember framing a dropped soffit while framing a house, that always came during the siding phase of construction.
is this normal or should i be charging extra?

It's normal, for owners and developers to try to hose the framers at every turn. If it's worth more, charge more or tell them to take a hike. The worse thing you can do is knuckle under. It will never stop. Do good work at a fair price and let someone else works for the low ballers.
Amen! Add for all extras. Don't start the job with out spelling it all out. Developers typically hold the extras payout till last and then don't pay. Been there. You'll do better developing your own work.

Were they on the original drawing from which you priced? Flat sq.ft. price is (should be) different than price with eaves regardless.
Also, in your bids/ pricing you should define what IS included and what is NOT. Saves on the haggling later on.
Infinite free call-backs if you did something wrong. Charge for call-backs if there is a change or addition to scope.
If you do something during a different phase of construction, you should, at a MINIMUM, charge a mobilization cost.
