Yee haa!
That's up there! Hard to imagine the original guys doing that by actually climbing -

Cool - Those tall booms are scary, but they make life a lot safer and easier.
You doing that job by yourself?

slate.... what town is that in ?
did they give you a can of white paint so you can hide the copper ?
great shots, BTW !Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Mike,
It's in Bangor Maine on Hammond St.
The white painted metal is old galv. This copper will age naturally I think.Theres another band of galv. on the next stepped in course above-then the cone is all copper.
The slate was relaid a couple of years ago.
The wind blew up one corner and it's flapping in the breeze.I'm only replacing that one course of metal all the way around for now.
Theres another band of old galvanized just above-next time.
Yes all alone on this one.My man is helping a friend while I recover from my MIS surgery.
By yourself? AFTER the surgery?.
Yer a determined SOB eh?
Looks great.
We lost a few functions in our boom today, first the basket wouldn't rotate, so we found a little rack gear came off a shaft on the joystick servo control. Fixed that, but in the process dislodged a pretty important wire from a limit switch right next to it..so we had UP..but no Down..lucky we could walk down the boom to get to the allen wrenches I shoulda still had in my tool belt..OOPS.

looks cool
no way on this green earth you'd get me up there though..
Slateman.........where is that steeple? I see you hail from the great state of Maine........(I was born there......stinking Lincoln)
I worked on the church in downtown Brunswick Maine a couple years ago, love being up high.
Rod
I live in Newburgh-but the Church is in Bangor Me. It's sits on Hammond St. just above the YMCA.
It doesn't stink as bad up there anymore. The town of Lincoln I mean.

Mike,
Thats exactly right -narrow straight matched boards.
I've taken the lowest one off to enable the old metal to be removed, then the copper can be installed.
I'm going to replace just the one I took off-they intend to reside and paint this area this Summer.
Too much wind today to be up that high
Walter
sure can make a case for underground utilities ...

That's a long way above the pavement. Nice work.
Got any photos of the boom?
zak
Zak,
I'll take some in the morning and post tomorrow nite.
It's a 125' Grove-a real smooth operating diesel machine.
My only gripe is that you can only select one boom at a time to use,and the main boom must be fully vertical to extend it.Once that boom is up you can rise and extend the second boom at the same time-and also swing the carraige.
Zak,
Heres a shot of the boom lift at ground level-I didn't take any of it from above.
One of the members of the Commitee took some of me up in it.I'll get his memory stick to upload one of his pictures.
Light rain with 10 to 20mph winds today, made for a little excitement.
Great stuff- thanks for the photos. I'm always impressed by how small the footprint of those booms are. I know whenever I'm up even a little ways I try extra hard to be smooth on the controls. I imagine you get a fair amount of bouncing around no matter what if you're working in 20 mph winds.

Nice work, Walter.Does that Grove have 4 wheel steer? It's pretty wild making those things move at a 45 degree angle. Why is it every time I need to get somewhere, I get waylaid by jackassery?
http://grantlogan.net/
Grant,
You can either have front wheel steer,or rear wheel-but you can't operate them both at the same time.
Just finished three sides with copper-have to prime and replace the lowest matched boards in the morning.A few loose ends too.
The side away from the street can't be reached with this machine-got to regrade the front to enable us to get out far enough to reach. When the ground dries out!
Waltah, that sure looked pretty this mornin even though there wasn't any sun, new copper sure does shine.
Gunn-
Your profile says you're from Maine,so does the "accent".
Have you driven by?Lets meet up sometime if you're around.
Thanks for the kind words.
Every time I see you you're headed the other way or I'm up in the sky and your on the ground, or you're up in the sky and I'm on the ground mostly its the latter. The bank job is a piece of art I smile every time I drive by you must have been doing that turret taper in your sleep, did I see a wet saw on site or did you cut all of em with a cutter? I'm headed south of the mason dixon going down to Wells for a few days Moms a school teacher she's bustiin me hard to go away and I won't have time this summer to take some time off. Next time I see you I'll stop and give you a holler.
Definately stop and lets talk-thanks very much for the kind words!
clap, clap, and clap. Btw Grants boom won't double arm, unless yer in turtler mode, rabbit over rides the happy stick. I bet yers is the same.

You gotta be kidding me ..Jorge is @ what %? Now?
Hope all is good on the other fronts.
I've tried to set this unit so no driving required once elevated like I might do with a 60'.
You can raise or lower either boom first-but only one at a time .Same with telescoping either boom-one at a time. The lower boom must be fully erect before you can extend it.The other one doesn't matter.
You can swing and spin the basket while working the booms or "scopes".
Overall it's a really nice ride-enabled me to do this alone, not even a ground man.
Watch out for those bees-you'll need that ankle this season!
