Connecting with another member on forum

Is there a way to connect with another member of forum 1 on 1? Clicked on member name, sent message but it went to public discussion. Maybe I need to fully join?

Far as I know there’s no “private way unless you open a discussion and post your contact info.
Didn’t use to be that way. There was a private message function and it made a lot of sense. A boatload of us have become good friends on this board but progress reared it’s ugly head and so that and a bunch of history here has washed under the bridge.
