I’m a novice in the home design/remodeling business. I’m wondering if anyone can suggest a solid, not-too-technical but helpful book on construction management. I’ve been given the opportunity to serve as a sort of a combination of project manager/construction manager on a large residential project.
Thanks in advance for your help!

20-30 books out there. It would be helpfull if you defined yourself and your potential job a bit more thoroughly.
Are you new to the trades in generall or just to the business aspects?
What is your overall background?
Would you be doing this as an employee or as a self employed person?
Is it a single family unit or a major complex?

Thanks for your reply.
To be specific, I have become part of an investment team and we just purchased our second home to completely redesign and remodel. During the last project, myself and another guy shared the duties of GC/project manager without really having much prior experience at all. Now, 14 months later and thru a stiff leaning curve, I've got a very basic understanding of most of the trades and the process as a whole on a home remodel. So, now we've decided that he will take the reigns of design and finance and I will be in charge of getting the tasks done efficiently and working directly with the subs. Any advice or books that could make my job run smoother would be most appreciated!
Thanks again for taking the time to add your thoughts!
Sincerely,

Mike,
I suggest you read all of the Dilbert books.
And try very hard not to be anything like the Pointy haired boss.
Though not construction related, they do deal a lot with management.

Mike, One that has been good for me was published by JLC. I can't fine it right now but I think the title was Managing the successful smal construction business or something like that. It was partially a compilation of articles they had run in the magazine.
Another good investment of your time with no cash outlay would be to run down through all the threads posted here at Breaktime in the business folder. Click on the bluie heading titled business to your left screen and it will list only threads under that heading.
For that matter, JLC has a couple of good business forums too. Find them here,
