Contact cement question. Now that grip is off the market I have had trouble findings a glue for sticking down laminate to plywood that works well. I have used touch down and it came loose. I have access to a 3 M glue and one by Wolf, Does anyone out there have any information on contact adhesives that work ?? Cort

I've been using contact cement by DAP/Weldwood http://www.dap.com with good results. Just be sure to coat your wood twice & a heavy, uniform coat on your laminate & your good to go.
Hope this helps

I also have used Weldwood....hate to say it but HD carries it.

I use the Dap brand Weldwood....the original in the RED can.......do not even bother with the non-flammable in the GREEN can.

i've used the lepages brand of latex contact cement for years building laminated countertops, never had a problem with adhesion
2 coats on the particle board and one on the laminate, spread with a paint roller
only disadvantage over solvent based stuff: takes longer to dry and it MUST be dry before laminating
caulking is not a piece of trim
If you use the flamable, and you are in an existing kitchen, make sure the gas is off to the range. Learned that one the hard way in my youth. The HO had the timer on the oven and it came on as I was glueing up a vertical surface while kneeling on the counter. When it blew up I found myself on the other side of the room with the wall engulfed in flames. Fortunately, there was an extinguisher on hand and I put out the fire which lasted about 30seconds. The considerable damage to the kitchen took MUCH longer to repair. Just about as much time as it took my eyebrows and lashes to grow back. Had a nice tan too. I didn't stop using flamable glue, but I am very careful with it. Good luck.
