I built this simple little oak stairway for a client that needed their old stair replaced.
Nothing fancy…..just 2.5 inch stringers mortised for the 1.5 inch thick treads.
I worked this one in between some curved stairway jobs. This guy used to be my boss years ago and I didnt want to turn the job down.

Geeze, Stan, you're starting to scare me with all these STRAIGHT staircases!

Where do you live that you get to have open risers?
Jealous. :-)
I can't speak for other parts of the country, but when I lived in NE Indiana, I knew folks from NW Ohio, Defiance and Paulding counties, who acted as owner/builders or had GCs build new for them, where no building inspection of any kind took place.Gene Davis, Davis Housewrights, Inc., Lake Placid, NY
Stan is in east-central IL. Go find some of his other postings, curved stairs are his specialty.

Tea: Obviously this would not pass an enforced code....I advised the owners for this to meet code would require a horizontal baluster of some type splitting the 6.5 gap between the treads.
