I’ve been in the remodeling business for 3 years now. I am extremely interested in furthering my education without spending a fortune on schooling that no one will pay me for. I would like to find more trainings held my manufacturers of products and find any trainings or certifications dealing with green building strategies. My problem is I can never find these events anywhere near where I live. Any suggestions?

You may need to travel to get into a few courses. Investing in education is never a bad idea. Unless what you’re learning is never going to be applied. You can write off all of those expenses as well. A lot of my best education has come from books and online resources. Also, a digital subscription to fine home building and the journal of light construction is very informative. You can go into the archives and find about anything you need. I have a company in the US and the UK. While out of the US I take online courses provided by the ICC (International code Council) as they are approved for continuing ed towards my US license. They have great courses online that discuss building envelope ect. I’m currently taking the same courses required to be a building inspector. Not b/c I want to be one, but b/c the courses are very practical and relevant (and I need the hours). The courses vary in cost, they do offer free courses as well, but most are fairly affordable. I do often take manufacturer courses as well, but if there is no written agenda provided beforehand do not attend as it will be a 2 hr sales pitch.
Are you a contractor? If so you should be inundated with emails from CE providers wanting you to come to their classes or do online courses. If you aren't just do a search for construction CE course providers.
When I wanted to do repairs in my apartment, I wanted to do it myself. Still, I did not have enough knowledge in this area, and I began to learn through various pieces of training.

For green building I'd look into Build it Green out of Berkeley CA. They have a course for a green building certification that you can do online for $400. I took the course about 20 years ago and at the time it was a great introduction to green building for me as a young contractor.
