i’m looking for somebody in the toronto area who can do high end copper work, specifically to redo a standing seam roof that was screwed up by an incompetent yahoo.
this also brings to mind an interesting question – why is it that when somebody doesn’t have the chops to do a job properly the customer is picky. this attitude makes me insane with rage. any thoughts?

It's a matter of comunication and perspective. What may please one customer may be unacceptable to another. As a professional my eye is more critical and my standards are higher than most of my clients and if it pleases me they are usually happy. Disagreements can arise, however, ususally from not sharing a common vision at the start of the project. The challenge for me is to ascertain the clients goals and meet (or exceed) them if practicable. The challenge for the client is to find someone they can relate to and be comfortable with (this may not necessarily be the lowest bidder) . Some customers can be "picky" and some tradesmen may do shoddy work. You hear about both sides on this site.

Gee thanks!
Interesting illustration. I read about a Frenchman who built a keyboard using pigs and needles (stategically applied to their butts) which supposedly could play recognizable tunes. This was several hundred years ago, presumeably your cats are a more recent version.
If you're up by Acton maybe Holmer can do it. He is an expert on pretty much everything! ( Or his people are)

If it is a double lock standing seam roof, you are in for deep cost+plus work. Unfolding the locks and "redoing" is not as simple as just tweaking a crooked stand with a handvil to line it up.
You need to be much more specific as to what is awry, in your view.
Hell, I'd come there and fix it, you don't ever have to rely on local tradesmen..just decide how bad ya want it.
Just take a triage approach, IS it dangerous as is? is it leaking? Is it gonna FU something else? Is it UGLY?
Shoot me an email with pics, I hate the summer in the southern tier, and have everything needed, except your $$$ deposit.

All but one puppies in happy homes..just one to go..whew!
Fill us in a little about the scope of the job and the price you paid for the quality work that was demanded.
In my experience, when someone complains about quality, the price paid wouldn't cover it.
Yes, there are some incompetent people selling bogus work at premium prices.
