Copper barrel dormer roof

theslateman | Posted in Photo Gallery on April 26, 2009 11:35am

Grant ,

I didn’t take time to get the learning curve down   wanted to get this roof done on the weekend so I used the crimper method after all.

The Wuko’s day will come after I practice some.  I’ve got to go prep a tower roof for copper on Vinalhaven in the morning so I wanted to complete this first.

First two pics are of the drip edge in place .

Panels waiting to be bent  and drip edge marked for crimping ,

Some more of the lock seam copper install on this barrel dormer.

Some of the panels in place.

Working up from the bottom on both sides.

Some of the hand tools needed to install .

    The portable workshop .

      More from todays install.

The first shows the " tree " used to mark the panel blanks for cutting the corners prior to bending.

The rest show working the center panels into place to bridge the panels already laid up both sides.

I relieved the cross seams by cutting them so the panel could bend across it's width .

Last batch before I go eat a monstrous pizza pie.

Rivetting , soldering  and a shot towards the end.

          Walter,

Looks really good. That Wuko was not able to do the work? The video made it look easy. Maybe a learning curve.

Looking forward to see what Friday brings.

            Chuck ,

Yes it looked easy in the You tube clip , but I needed  results . Couldn't spend all day yesterday learning the ropes .

I'll get to practice on some rain day and figure if they'll be helpful.

I'll start a thread on Wed. in the business folder to fill you in on my little escapade !

            Thanks for looking .

            Best ,     Walter

Looks good, Walter. Pretty much the way we'd do it except for the valley. We're starting a job tomorrow that has 13 barrels similar to those. I'll get some pics and we'll swap tips.

Get us lots of pix from Vinalhaven.http://www.quittintime.com/      View Image

        Thanks Grant ,

The Wukos like you said need to be played with a bit , not unboxed and used immediately .

I shoulda listened to ya !!

Naw this job was done so I could buy those and have enough for a nice digital Sony camcorder to record Fridays events.

I'm not in the same league as you guys yet , but I'm still teaching myself some things .

        Best ,  Walter

            Thanks Grant ,

Slates my forte , copper is getting better.

Maybe I'll come down next Winter to help you for the experience and banter.

I'll be really ready for a break by then. The pace is quite hectic already .

Plenty of pictures after I return from Lobster Island tomorrow nite . Just Grace Ultraing the project , but will take a bunch of what I'm dealing with.

            Thanks again Grant ,   Walter

You're welcome to come hang out anytime. I wish I'd known about you on my last trip up there.

Hey, better yet: Flaming winnebago of death needs some riders/drivers. I'm probably not gonna be able to make it if the winnebago falls thru.http://www.quittintime.com/      View Image

            Grant ,

I'd love to go , but still not sure how things will come together for me .

I'm trying to get some coins ahead so I can pay off my home equity and still hire a couple of carp friends to help finish up a lot of  projects here at my hacienda .

A bunch of nice jobs lined up  -- just gotta stay healthy to be able to perform them all.

Got to hit the hay soon  -up by quarter to 4 to drive to Rockland to catch a 7 A M boat .   Easy day out there though .

            Best ,   Walter

            Grant ,

Theres a ballustrade going up after I'm done .

The PT 4 x 4 's will be faced with wood I suppose and railing added .

Great spot to work  , looking over at North Haven island .
