Copper Gutters/Slate Roofing repair and replacement/expert roofing advice needed
During the third snow storm last winter in Washington, DC, my 1939 house with custom copper gutters and slate roof received extensive damage. I also need many snow guards replaced and some flashing on the chimney. One long gutter in front of the house has been patched on one seam but this is not holding. what is the best patch to fix this gutter? i thought a piece of copper gutter put inside and soldered might be a solution. the gutter is 40 feet long and would be expensive to replace. I already have about 40 feet of guttering plus downspouts to be replaced.
The experienced slate roofers are all too busy with existing clients. my regular roofer says he is overwhelmed and can’t get to my job.
I have built-in copper gutters which need to be replicated. One roofing company will give me an estimate Sept 28 and may get to the work mid-October. in the meantime, during the heavy rains two weeks ago, it did rain into my second floor bedroom. what kind of protection can i put on the roof in the meantime until they can get to the work? and do i need to replace the copper valley which has roofing tar on it? one company said it needs to be replaced. I know it is difficult to pinpoint the location of where the water on the inside is coming from. the insurance company has given me an initial estimate but in my opinion it is way too low.
below are some pictures of the most problematic corner.

Shame
It's a shame no one responded to you. For snow damage you can actually install electronic heating elements to avoid build up.
You could get much better copper gutters. We do mainly european style.
on occasion we pop into forums a provide spam links to our company.
