I need some help on a copper shower pan which is in a new home, not yet complete. The shower was ready to be tiled, until I filled the pan and found that it does not hold water. The pan is installed with Dense-shield over the last inch of a six inch pan. Rather than take out the pan, does anyone know of a product that I can put over the pan that will seal and last as long as copper? How about roof mastic? How about a rubber membrane? any help? Thank You.

Hi Ben.
I never installed a shower pan, but I do know that a rubber-like membrane called CPE (chlorinated polyethilene) is now being hailed as the "material of choice" for making shower pans. This stuff can be adhered to your copper pan.
There are also shower pans being made out of a poly vinl product, but that was recently discussed with Michael Byrne on JLConline.com (he's a tile installer and hosts a tile setting forum on that website.) all indications I got from reading their threads are that CPE is the ONLY membrane material that will ensure long life. The others can leak over time.
Hope this helps. You can contact the:
Noble Company
Grand Haven, MI ph. (616) 842-7844.
I believe they manufacture CPE membranes and could better answer your questions .
Davo.
