I had a lot of copper flashing material left on the remodel I’m doing. (HO ordered way to much) So, to use some of it up, I bent the 6″ strips on a brake into ‘lap siding’ to side a couple little gables with. Turned out kinda neat.

Forget the primal scream, just ROAR!!!
I'll join the chorus - that's beautiful.
Knowing what copper cost the last time I bought it, I'd be out there with a shotgun at night!

Kinda neat indeed!
looks sharp and will definitely add character to the house over it's neighbors
The HO is a character. He's pretty proud of the bling bling on his house now. We started calling the project 'the Duracell house' because of the copper top.
Mike
That's better than the Energizer house. And I DON'T want to know what you used to side THAT house!

Anyone steal it yet? :)
That is Beautiful!!!
Imagine doing a whole house with copper clapboards?
When the wife saw the little gable, she wanted to do the big gable with it, probably a couple square. I told her she better talk to her husband about that.
Mike
Mike,I'd love to see that.Joe Carola
Hope it's way off the ground. They are lifting copper from constructions sites here every day. Looks great.
My friend does insurance losses and he went to New York on a new building going up and someone went in somehow and cut all the copper out with water flying all over the place. 100k in copper and forget what it cost for water damage.Joe Carola
Around here they started by removing the plates from the base of street lights and tearing out the wire, but recently they took 3kms of telephone cable knocking out service to the next town up north. I thought that was bold, but your 100k worth of pipe, with the water still on, beats that cold.
They're just a bunch of animals tearing at raw meat........Joe Carola
You know I never thought of it quite that way, but it really does come down to that doesn't it?
You just have to hope the power is still on and they get their Darwin reward.

From today's paper. Guess the power wasn't on - this time...
(11-13) 13:15 PST HOUSTON (AP) --
A burglary suspect tried something very uncool, trying to hide in an air conditioning unit at a Houston shooping center on Monday.
At first, officers who responded to the burglar alarm couldn't find anyone. But, they later noticed the man atop the building and summoned a ladder truck.
Officer John Dickerson said the suspect was nabbed inside an air conditioning unit. Copper wire was stripped from several other industrial AC units at the complex.
re "lifting copper from construction sites..."
This building is under construction in down town Little Rock. Can't help but take a few pics (when have camera at the ready) everytime I walk by there...

I'll try and walk by the side of the project that has the sign board...next time I'm up thtat way.
There's pretty chintzy chain link security fencing round the bldg site. I'm guessing they have more security on wherever onsite they're storing their CU supply.DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
I know why they used so much copper..... they want to conjure up that ancient Sumerian god called Gozer. Better call Dr. Peter Venkman and Dr. Egon Spengler.
Keep that up BUSTER and you're gonna get SLIMED! <g>
DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
That would feel so funky.
Innovative and looks good too.

I think it looks great! and hope both HO's are expecting it to oxidize to a beautiful Cu patina.
DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
You mean its not gonna stay nice and shiny?? :) Any idea how long it takes to turn a pretty green? I have no idea.
Mike
I hate to slam my own gender but sh*t...I wouldn't be the LEAST bit surprised if the HO's DW was "surprised" when it started to oxidize...DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
LOL. No, I made it very clear that it wouldn't stay like that.
I am sitting here chuckling, picturing her up on ladder trying to polish it.
Mike
When I went by that bldg in Little Rock and stopped to take pictures...some ladies on sidewalk beside me, when noticing that vertical sections of the copper sheathing "looked different" made comments about "oh I'm sure they'll clean it when they're done installing it" and I about snorted my coffee outta my nose (since they were noticing the oxidation of and on, the prior day's worth of CU sheathing!)
SO I don't ever assume too much...
BTW, that bldg I posted coupla pics from is a High rise - not bank, not oil bldg. And it's about 75% sold out! Found it's addy and website:

DUM SPIRO SPERO: "While I breathe I hope"
Thats funny.
Cool building BTW.
Interesting -- how did you attach it? Are there hidden cleats, like a traditional copper roof?
-- J.S.
No, nothing that fancy. I bent it with a 1/2" vertical flange on the top and bottom of the piece. I held the piece in position then nailed through the top flange into the wall. The bottom flange of the next piece overlaps the top flange of the piece below it. I ran a small bead of silicone between the two, and also nailed it through both flanges with a few small copper nails. Harder to describe than to do; I could draw a sketch if you like.
I actually did the first gable about six weeks ago and the other just last week. Both have been through a 70 mph wind and held just fine.
