I’m going to see if my picture space is still available with this sequence.
Heading out to Vinalhaven to put on a combo standing seam / lock seam roof on this ” tower ” joining two buildings .
Went out a month ago to install Grace Ultra prior to the copper.
A view towards the Camden Hills looking over North Haven .
A couple pics of the structure to be roofed .
Yes my space was just half used up by these 3 pictures . Looks like the best days of Breaktime are now behind us !!

Chuck ,
Thanks I'll try that the next time I post .

Walter,
I am wrong about that. It does not work all of the time.

That's bizarre. My count is "zero" bec the attachments were "forum sponsored", whatever that means.
Chuck ,
Mine has been reset back to zero .
Hoping that keeps working for awhile .
Thanks Walter
Trying again

SGI don't know what it means either. There are many fine craftsmen and women on this forum that take the time and effort to share their projects, skills and expertise in photo threads. I hope management realizes that ones stops, takes pics, works some, take pics..... Then we download, resize, write text and imbed them.I have a thread "Small Addition" that has been running since 2006. I add to it when time allows and I have access to the right computer. I have over 100 pics to add but am hesitant with the recent restrictions.I hope the Taunton folks realize there are many lurkers that do not post but enjoy the "How To" photo threads. I am sure some magazines are sold as a result of BT.Chuck Slive, work, build, ...better with wood

I just looked more closely at the pie chart and see i have a 1000KB to "spend". I was gearing up to do a photo thread on the water-well drilling i had done this past week bec i've worked with my guys before and they let me get close the the action, but 1000KB won't get me past the second or third post.
So put up what you can -- then try and reset your quota !!
It worked for me.
I'll try that. I'm re-sizing and naming now, but it appears i'll have to save to disc and fire up the old PC to post in-line.
Thanks -- we'll watch for it .
Just got back from a whirlwind trip to the beach. If you need a hand with the photo set up I can help you out with a directory on one of my servers. You can upload the photos there, and then call them with some HTML in the post. They'll appear in the body of the post, not as a link to somewhere else.Best,

Steve ,
I knew you told Mike you'd host photos for some of us .
Thats very generous -- thank you .
If what Gunner and Chuck have said holds true we may be able to reset after each post .
I'll be trying more from the Island .
Thanks again . Best regards , Walter
Why don't you just create another name and email addy?
I would post them for you, but you guys would have to work me through it.
You can only get 6 or 8 pictures in the 1000 kb allotment , so you'd need to change names every third post .
Not really feasible .
Thanks anyway though .
Didn't realize it was such a small allottment!
Made it out to the island and picked up my break on the trailer and headed up island .
Made up some drip edge in the rain .
gonna try and put up some pics if the pie chart will allow it .
I have half a pie left .
My last post used 512 kb ,but I just had a give back so I've got another 1000 to burn thru tommorrow !!!!!
That's a fine lookin Lexus you have there..........
My buddy on Vinalhaven put that on last Fall after we worked on his house I guess !!!
Walter,Is that a new brake? Remember you talking with Grant about buying something recently.Hard to keep track of you profligate spender types!Best,

Thats an old beast thats been out here on the Island all Winter from my last gutter job .
Day 3 and I'll have all 4 sides done in an hour after I leave the Library here and go back North . I'm out on Zeke's Point on one of the prettiest spots in the USA .
I might be able to post some pics tonight if I get back in time -- Wi fi shuts down at 8 PM so there aren't folks hanging here all nite ,
Best , Walter
The meeting I'm referring to is in Toronto, he said there is another one in Pa. at a later date.
Sounds like an interesting time .
I'll resize some pics tonight later -- my Wi Fi runs out here in 10 minutes or so .
Making excellent progress hope the weather holds for a couple more days .

Grant ,
Thanks for embedding those for me .
Working out of the cab on my laptop next to the Library so I didn't want to take the extra steps involved .
Should wrap it up for the most part tomorrow.
They want me to quote putting up the wooden gutter and adding copper drops , but leaving it unlined . I wished it had already been installed -- a good toe hold to work from .
Got my transition strip and 3/4 's of my flat panels on top today .

Haven't checked my allotment yet today .
Might try to put a few up later .
I'll give it a try .

Back home after a wrap up today .

I hope they have you put a new roof on the rest of the house and do away with those laced in valleys. never did like em. Nice job.
That wouldn't be me doing the asphalt work .
Can't handle the slate and copper work coming my way .
I agree it looks ugly though .
A few pics maybe .
I've got a pie chart showing 801 kb , but when I go to upload it says I've exceeded my limit .

Walter,OK, good. I tried sending you an email to your midmaine addy and it was rejected. Wasn't sure if this one had suffered the same fate.Just wanted to make sure you had an avenue to get some photos up to share if you desired.Best,

Looks good, Walter - beautiful location.
Couple of things I'd do differently as usual, but that's a very nice looking roof.
One question: Don't you have a problem with the I&WS melting into your solder?
We normally have to isolate the copper with rosin paper if it's over I&WS.
http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
Grant ,
Thank you Sir . I knew we'd do things a bit differently , but it won't leak .
Notice I adopted your edge technique to make a sweet bottom edge !
I wished I'd had time to look around a bit more -- thats way more than a million dollar view .
The ultra Grace doesn't have any gooey edge strip and no stickiness -- so no I went right over it . It's expensive and specifically made to go under metal .
Thanks again for the compliments . Thought you had trouble with my Shutterfly's ??

The archy from that small barreled entrance called while I was away to tell me to book doing their job .
I get some more practice !!
Glad those albums open up now . I've got to look into Steve's hosting arrangement as well as Flickr which Huck uses .
Walter
I too was hesitant to open the shutterfly, it had given me problems in the past. But I wanted to see the pics, so I went ahead, and like Grant, it worked like a charm.

Walter,I noticed them, too. Found them very arty, especially being able to see the harbor in the reflection. Is there a hatch that I missed that leads to this observation deck? At least I'm assuming they aren't putting all that mahogany up there just to stare at from the ground.Best,

Thanks , They will add a mahogany post wrap and railing set up that a shop will fabricate or might have it already made .
I may go out to install the wooden gutters and drops on the tower while it's staged up . The carpenters are a bit gun shy to tackle it . By rights it should have been done prior to my work , would have made both tasks a bit less difficult .
No place out there ships the crustaceans , but I'll be going locally soon and will be sure you're around to make sure they are well taken care of .

Walter,
The photo's there, but you'll want to use some HTML magic to make it appear inline here.
Like so...
View Image
You need to add in some code like the next post to get that to happen.

Code works like this...<p><img src="http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3357/3603807742_64f78f57bc.jpg">Then just make sure to check the box below the 'Post' button that lets the system know you entered some HTML, and you are off and running. If you forget to check the box, your post will just spit the code out onto the live post, exactly like it is here.'Man who say it cannot be done should not interrupt man doing it' ~ Chinese proverb

but technically, they want you to include a link back to the flickr page. They give you the html to do that, so you should be able to embed photos, using their html, just copy and paste it. I also enjoyed the Lexus plate. what I really want---is an on-line tutorial from walter how he installs GRACE solo--and so neatly.
I can install Certainteed wintergaurd all day long by myself---- but i can't even pick up a box of Grace without feeling like i am wrapped in fly paper the Grace rep I saw a couple months ago SWEARs there is a zip cord, split release thing----- but I have never found it EVER on a roll of GRACE. FANTASTIC stuff, IF you can actually get it on the roof,LOL
stephen. Oh ,ya- hey walter- I need about 70 12x24 salvaged Sea Greens--- my usuall slavage yard didn't have anything that big( pickings are getting slim there)-- but they turned me on to another semi-local source------ guy says he has 500 pallets of salvaged slate----so I am going treasure hunting tommorrow----digging through this guys "museum of antique and obsolete roofing materials" I will get some pictures of the place tommorrow---- son #1 and I are doing a repair job thursday and friday-- I will try to get you some pictures of THAT place---- looks like Hansel and Gretel live there!!!
I think you will like it. I have a Semi- adopted son living in my home along with my 2 actual sons---- anyhow the new guy fixed my old camera for me---- it's great having"digital natives" around the house.
stephen
Stephen ,
That 's Grace Ultra to go under copper .
Much easier to work with . Temperature and sunlight are the things to avoid with regular Grace .
Hope you can score some large sea greens I don't have much in Vermont colors ,mostly all Maine slate here. Glad your camera is working again . Love to see a fancy slate roofed house from your baliwick !!
Hope to be done out here in 2 more days .

I believe not only does BT help to sell FHB, but is is an educational tool and resource for Taunton. The editors have gained immeasurably from those posting here. Kind of a slap inn the face to limit photo space. But, to be truthful, other forums I post on do not host photos, and I have gotten used to linking from the net in general as well as my Photobucket.
Interestingly my roofing expert/designer is attending a meeting this week as a consultant on revising, editing the last slate roof how to manual/book. I have spoken to him about you and your skills and told him YOU should be consulted. This last revision (or original) is from the 20's. As usual thanks for your informative posts.
