Is there such an animal? By that I mean a non-cordless hammer drill that behaves like one of the expensive cordless impact screwdrivers. (variable clutch-not just a hammer drill). I wouldn’t mind dragging the cord around since most of my work is indoors or in my shop and I would think one of these would cost a third of what the cordless ones go for…Just wonderin.

I have an old craftsman corded impact driver, trouble is its alittle on the big size for screws and the like. its 10years old but still ticking.
Makita model 6951. Visit makita.com to take a look. It's under drills and fastening in their product catalog. Sorry, I'd give you the link, but my browser had a stroke not too long ago and now refuses to let me copy links.

If that doesn't work, you'll have to do it the old fashioned way.
Wow. Maybe I'm amazed. It worked.
I never met a tool I didn't like!
Amazon.com has the 6951 for 189.99, which is about 50 bucks cheaper than the battery driver.

I have the cordless model, and although the corded is cheaper, the flexibility of the battery makes it worthwhile. I use that driver nearly everyday, and it's one less cord I have to trip over.
