Are you sure a reverse-lever hand stapler wouldn't work for you?
like this:
Arrow 5700 hand stapler brad nailer

At a little over a half inch brad length (and not the gauge of the common brad nailer I don't think) it would see little use except for thin material. A real nailer could go from 5/8's up to 2-1/8 and would certainly be more useful.
After reading the reviews from your link, I wouldn't waste the trim to pick one up.
Well, if he only needs it a couple of times a year, he may not need to drive a 2" brad!
According to many more reviews..........
the stapler is a pc of crap. How do you think the brad nailer is?
A pinner maybe, but they do not mention the gauge.
I think the stapler might be hit and miss. The one I had jammed too... once. Cleared after I took it apart and still works just fine.
