Wednesday Montreal Gazette. Washington post
Black and Decker is recalling about 950,000 cordless drills and about 6,100 table saws because the drills pose a fire hazard and the saws pose the risk of electric shock to consumers, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said.
The company is recalling the drills because the switch might malfunction and overheat, posing a possible fire hazard, tha agency said. The motor housing on the table saws could crack, posing a risk of electrical shock.
The drills are of the “Firestorm” or “Quantum Pro” models. The table saws are made inTaiwan, has a gray saw with an orange front panel bearing the name “Black&Decker” The units have a model number BT2500 and have date codes 200128-CT through 200148-CT.
The drills were sold from March1999 to December 2001. The saws from August 2001 through April 2002.
Check your tool boxes boys and never admit you might have one.

Yup and now they have to take them back.
You mean, take 'em back to China?
Ken Hill
They should.
At least they were named accurately .........
Isn't Black and Decker the parent company of Dewalt? I'll stick with Milwaukee and Bosch if I want something that will last.
Funny thing happened a few months ago. I was working on a church, and in come the electricians and heat and air guys to do the trim . [same guys] They brought in a big metal box and opened it . There were about a dozen fire storms in it . I said WOW!!! So being the inquisitive guy that I am , I ASKED WHY. Following is the response I got ;
Well, there are several reasons . They cost me 20 dollars a pop. They are reconditioned frieght. They do the job , and they are lighter . They take falls off of ladders better , and if they dont , BIG DEAL. They seem to find other homes for some reason and I have to replace them. They will drive a 3 inch screw and we dont even use them for that . The drill dont out last the batteries , so I dont have that problem . [I chuckeled on that one ] I said I understand where you are comming from . Here is another case of us doing different things . For me , I would be ashamed to have one in the box, but I had to ask my self . Is a drill worth 200 dollars ????????????????? Yep thats what my wife paid for my last one . Heres another question ; Is this guy smarter than I am about tools ? Has me wondering .

You know something Tim, you've got a good point there. Just like you I'd be ashamed to pull out a Firestorm drill instead of one of my Makitas. But really, it's foolish to buy something just because of it's name. If the tool does what it needs to do, then what's the problem with it... nothing. I'm still going to stick with my Makitas though.
As I will be with my Dewalts ! lol
