I’m seriously thinking about buying one of those 18v cordless reciprocating saws (Dewalt #dc385k) at $125 cheaper than the price of a new saw. It’s one of those reconditioned/refurbished that are supposed to be great deals. Anyways, before I actually buy one I thought I’d ask some of you guys if you’ve ever used one or own one of those saws what you really think of them. I already have a corded Dewalt one but may have some use for one soon. Still in all, these cordless saws do come in handy some times. Let me know what you think of the saws?

I used my buddys and it worked well. just keep up with charging the batterys. sharp blades help the power last.
in cordless tools i think a recip saw is the weakest tool. the reason is when you pick one up you are probaly not cutting 1/4 ply with it,your demo'ing a 2 x8 in a tight spot and they just don't perform like a corded. but that said i have one and do grab it to cut off some nails etc. and it is very handy easy stuff like that.
but don't get rid of the corded version. larry
if a man speaks in the forest, and there's not a woman to hear him,is he still wrong?
I agree with alwaysoverbudget they are a good tool for little jobs. Be carefull buying recon tools,I have found that the batteries are usually much weaker than new batteries.
Never make the mistake of thinking it can replace a corded saw...not gonna happen. It is a wonderfully handy thing to have around for quick cuts, but the power and longevity aren't really there.
I have an electrician friend that uses his cordless for almost everything, because it's generally just quick cuts through conduit.
I bought the dewalt recon recip saw about a year ago for the same price. I love it. The tool was practically brand new, and I've had no performance issues with the batteries. I use the tool constantly. It's great on staging or ladders, no cord to get caught up on. I rarely take out the corded recip unless I'm doing major demo. However, I do agree that the corded version will not be replaced by the cordless. In my opinion I would buy it. I was not disappointed, I wished I'd bought it sooner.
Good Luck!
Bri, i've already had an experience with a reconditioned tool before. Last winter I bought Dewalt's 12" dual bevel miter saw for $350 instead of $500 new. It's the cat's #### in my opinion. Well worth every spent I paid for it.
