I’m trying to find a cordless disk or r.o. sander to use on my boat, which is stored in a lot without power. The closest thing I can find is something like the DeWalt DC411 cut off tool/angle grinder. This would be fine since I currently use a wired angle grinder with a soft polishing pad behind an abrasive disc in my shop, but it doesn’t look like any of the cordless grinders have variable speed. Does anyone know of a variable speed cordless sander? Or of an easy way to wire a variable speed resistor into a cut off tool?
Thanks.

I have an adaptor thingie I got loing ago that has orbital mechanism in it that will chuck to a drill.
Don't know if they are still available.
But very much use is going to take a lot of batteries, so that is probably why nobody has come out with cordless orbitals in mass yet

I have an AEG Grinder that has a Porter cable wobbler pad to make it a killer RO sander, you may adapt that to the DW cutoff. Just get a PC head. I don't think variable speed is a good idea.

Might be easier to get an inverter to give you the 120volt you need. You can run this from the car/truck battery.
This way you can use the sander you have.
Or Roybi has a 18volt cordless sander. http://www.cporyobi.com/categories/cordless_tools/sanders_and_polishers.html
