   The reference to Ask the Builder is excellent, a new source of information for me. My question is whether one can install a cork floor over a radiant heated floor---is this a good idea nor not? Sacie

   *Because I am interested in installing cork flooring in my kitchen, I read, with great interest, all the information listed in Ask the Builder. Toward the very end of the information, I found this:>If you decide to install cork over a subfloor that contains radiant heating of any type, you MUST consult with the manufacturer. These heating systems can create problems if the installation is not done correctly....BEWARE!<Hope this is of some help to you.

   *In response to using cork in the kithchen, I would say go for it. It is very comfortable under foot, which is nice if one spends a lot of time cooking. One problem I had was that all the cork under the refridgerator shrunk, leaving unsightly seams. When I sold my home and removed the fridge the new owners were not too happy when their smaller unit did not cover the same area.

   We are building a new house and are considering using cork flooring in the basement. Not many people in this area (north Georgia) are familiar with it. Is it very durable? Other opinions?

   I am in the pro cork club, the application that i've seen it in was in a bathroom and holy cow did it hook me first thing. Its comfortable under foot and with a toe kick heater in your cabinets you more than likely will not need costly under tile heating. Besides the cork is a warm floor without heat, not cold like ceramic would be. Make sure to add some furniture cups under the fridge wheels, or if your doing your counters in formica use some scraps of those to save the floor from divits.
