Can anybody enlighten me about the properties(pros & cons) of cork insulation(loose & rigid) for basement ceiling application. Going to turn basement into practice area for electric guitar and want to create the best sound barrier for the ceiling. Is cork healthy? Is it economical…moderately priced or expensive for material costs. Are there many contractors that still install cork insualtion? Any comparative scenarios, or recommended alternative, better method that u suggest?
thank you for your time & ideas!

Sheet cork is a fairly absorbant surface and should work fine if you like the appearance. You'd want unsealed cork, not the kind with a sealer that's used on floors.
Absorbtion of sound within the room is only part of sound control. Of course, really effective sound control can cost much more than you'd want to spend for jammin' in the basement. But here's a link which will tell you more than you want to know.

There are 4 components to effective sound control.
Don't overlook the sealing part. It's fairly cheap for the improvement you get.
Used, free carpet is cheaper. Mounting it is the challenge.
