Our church has a 45 year old cork tile floor that needs a good cleaning. I don’t know how to go about cleaning and waxing it. Since it is 45 years old it probably is paste waxed originally. Should we sand it or strip it , and if so with what? I don’t want to ruin it as it is still in good condition!

If you click on the Google link below, you will get a lot of vendor sites that usually give at least some information on cleaning the cork floor - and usually will want to sell you some of their products to do it...

Try a little spot first with mild stripper and a light sanding. Cork is a wood product but is softer than pine when it comes to refinishing.

If my memory is any good..I think you really need to make sure that what ever you clean it with contains NO ammonia...some past customer darkend hers irreversably using ammonia and h2o trying to LIGHTEN a spot of Cat Pizz..which some of us knows smells a lot like .....ammonia..wound up doing the whole floor to make it match.
