Help!
I’m having a hard time with the idea of butting the hardy plank siding up to my Azek corner and then having to caulk. I know that putting the corner trim over the end of the siding is probably not the best idea. I thought about shimming the corners and over lapping the corner on top of the siding. Also thought about using a piece of J channel next to the corner trim to cover the edge of the siding. Is there a better way to do this????? I don’t like the idea of chalking and repainting. My siding has been pre-painted. I had planned on giving it another coat after it was up. Any suggestions would be great. Dave, Valdez Alaska

I've seen houses where they build the trim out and put the siding behind it. From a distance it looks fine but up close it looks hack to me. I think the only way to do it, the right way, is to butt the siding to the trim. I like to use 5/4 with hardie, the 4/4 sometimes doesn't stand out as much as the hardie.

Do you putt the siding up tight to the trim? How much of a gap do you leave between the siding and trim for the caulk?

I had planned on giving it another coat after it was up.
Problem solved.

A couple of co's are making pvc trim with "ears" or what ever you wish to call them that the end of your siding hides behind.

I hate the idea of chalking also. That's why I usually caulk the joint instead.

Build out the corner. Put the jchannel under the corner,
I still think tin corners are the best idea.
I was thinking of like a white Vinyl from CertainTeed.
White vinyl what? You've got Azek corners and Hardiplank siding?

Eric,
I found the website.
Thanks
Looks like they have some good ideas I can use.
Dave, can you rabbit out the back of the post to accept the siding. This way it goes under the corner post. Ice and water film underneath it all with a 12 inch wrap on both sides? Or did someone say this allready?

Run 30# tarpaper behind the joint.
Apply the caulk just before setting the piece of siding so you are bedding it in caulk instead of caulking over it.
BTW, you statement of butting it up to the Azek is wrong thinking. There should be space for expansion and caulk there, not a tight butt joint.
