Over the last 3 years I’ve been building the dream house that I’ve always wanted. This summer I lost my job. I’ve found a new job, but have to sell the house and move before I can complete the master bath.
The real estate agent suggested I offer a tile allowance for the new owner to finish the bath. Can anyone give me a ballpark estimate of what it might cost to have a contractor tile my bathroom?
The room is 9′ x 12′. Backer board is already installed on the floor. Besides the floor, there is a walk in shower of typical size with bare studs, so it would need a liner and mud job base, waterproofing and backer board on the walls, and tile. All the other fixtures are installed and operational.
Any help would be appreciated.

Jeez man, I am sorry to hear you lost your job. So much for the economic benefit of the tax refund.
I would actually bid out your job, if I were you. Seeing that the tile guy won't get the job, perhaps pay him $100-200 for the bid.
But a full shower and floor, I would say about $5-15 per square foot with another $4,000 for the shower, depending on cost of tile. But I am not cheap.

An allowance is almost meaningless unless it is accompanied by a list of specs. The time and material for a job like this can vary too much. Certainly nobody here will be able to tell you much. I have done a bathroom for myself like that for under $2000 but I was able to control the cost of the tile and to simplify the details so that it could be done quickly. It could easily cost 3 times that.
I suggest that you find someone in your area who does this work well and pay him to give you a written estimate. Otherwise don't bother with the allowance.
