I’m having a house built next year and would like to use a hydronic system in my 900-1000sf garage/shop. I would like to know what a ball park figure would be for a self-installed system using a water heater for the boiler.
Thanks, Jim

Jim,
I did an installationn in my home for an office area and sized it so I could add the bathroom later. A total of 450sf. My cost was around $1400. I would think you could do yours for 2k or so. The water heater is about the same, my install is on top of an existing uninsulated slab so you wouldn't need as much boiler to cover the same sf. Tubing is not cheap but wouldn't add that much more. Controls are the same. My vendor told me I wouldn't need a fill line or an automatic air vent. Spend the extra $120 and get both. I added them later. Love the heat. For my use I am glad I did it. *I built a 42 x 56 work shop 2 years ago . Bought tubing ,pump ,ect. from Radiantec, bout $1500.00.a Polaris heater from local pluming supply around $1500.00 too, I keep stat. on 60'. I used 220 gal. of propane the first winter , 190 last year .ITS GREAT
*I purchased x-ling polyethylene tubing from Barnetts ( a catalog company) for 22cents a foot. I made my own manifold from 3/4" Copper and used a Grundfos German pump. I think it came out pretty cheap and is great heat. Radiatec is a great place to start and I still buy what I can from them. The Wood Doc
*1100 Sq feet of floor for about 1500 not including waterr heater. Installed it all ourselves including plumbing. We bought from an online company. ( SPNW).I would buy manifolds from them again but most likely would buy the rest from my local plumbing supplier as it could be cheaper.jill
*I second (or third, or fourth) going with Radiantec. Cheapest DIY I was able to find. We have a slightly different application (staple-up between joists, two zones, heating 1200 s.f.), so ours was probably more expensive, but we spent about $3000 for all tubing, shipping, and plumbing (manifolds, pumps, etc.). Great company, good service, excellent prices.
