Cost of contractor install crawl insulation
I live in an 8 unit (4 up, 4 down) condo in southern Indiana. The building has 4 shallow crawl spaces, each about 1,000 sq ft. They are connected in pairs with 2 doors, 1 on each end. Without getting into much detail, they paid to have the fiberglass insulation between the joists removed to create a conditioned space.
They then discovered local regs required fire barrier protections and raised other issues. So they decided to return the spaces to vented “as-built” condition. A crew (about 4 workers) spent less than a day (6 hours?) re-installing fiberglass insulation between the joists. I estimate the 4,000 sq ft of R-19 CertainTeed Kraft-Faced Fiber Glass at the local Menards would have cost the contractor about $1,600.
My question: What would be a reasonable price for this job?

Huh?
What does this mean?
Four thousand
I would guess it's gonna cost at least what the contract states, probably more, for "unexpected circumstances".
Less than a day doesn't have any real meaning. They had to drive there and get back and whatever else it killed the whole day for a crew of 6 plus probably a supervisor. Pretty much everyone I know bills at least $60.00 a man hour for hourly work so 4 guys times 8 hours times $60.00 comes to $1920.00.00 plus your price of $1600.00 in materials equals $3520.00. If you got a good job done for less I'd say you made a good deal. If you paid more I'd want to see the conditions before I said you paid too much.
Assuming this job is done are you going to tell us what you paid?
Oh well...
You're some tough competition, selling materials with no markup like that. I'm right with you on the labor rates and times, but I don't sell materials for the same price I paid for them... so I guess you get the job!
Not me, I don't want the job. I was just accepting the OP's primise about man hours, material, etc. to give a neighborhood pricing. I'm assuming that he think's they paid too much and they may have but you and I know it's impossible to tell unless we can see the job. I've been under houses where I couldn't lift my arms over my head and others where I could drive a small car.
