Ok, We put in a 4 ton geothermo heat pump. It has 8000 feet of pipe buried in the ground. It has been running for two months now. Last month
the weather was ok so it would come on and off throughout the day.
This last two weeks it has been running non stop. I think it shut down
yesterday for about 10-15 minutes.
Does anyone have info on what it cost them to run a heat pump? The house we are building is about 4000 sq ft. We are heating about 3668 sq ft.
Does your heat pump run all the time in cold weather? We are in Michigan,
And its going to get much colder!

Well the cost to operate the heat pump depends on your cost of electricty and which plan that you are on. And that varies a lot around the country.
And then you need to know the specifics of the heat losses of your house and the climate to determine the amount of BTU's that is needed to heat the house. Then you need to figure in the COP of the heat pump.
BUT that is not really your question. The question is why is the heat pump running continously while the weather is still relatatively mild.
You need to get the installers out to check the equipment.
