I’m sure this question has been asked before but couldn’t find any previous….
i’m in the planning stage of building a new house and I’m trying to get a (very) ballpark idea what the electrical service/wiring will cost. The house is about 2,000 sf, about 8 rooms overall, 3 bedrooms… planning on using 200 amp service. There’s nothing exotic that would require special wiring… pretty basic. The house is located in the New England area. Any suggestions would be appreciated… thanks.

Two years ago, it cost me $4,000 to have a 200 amp service installed in a new 1800 sf house. That should give you a starting point.
Double the bid so you can cover the re-wiring after the thieves get the first run.

Based on our costs the last few years I'd guess $20k, give or take $5k not including any power company cable run to the meter on the house.
Beer was created so carpenters wouldn't rule the world.
It depends on the current exchange rate for copper, which version of the electrical code you have to pass, whether or not you can actually get away with 200 amp service (might not be possible in an all electric home) and several other variables.
I know I can get by with a 200 amp service for my 2,200 sq. ft. house, but the powers that be didn't agree. The total cost is somewhere around $12k.
toycept,
A lot of thing's come in to play on the price.
How far from the meter?
Cable TV?
Underground/ overhead?
Each room with cable/ telephone?
Decora devices vs standard ?
How many 3-ways?
Dimmers?
Receptacles?
Cans?
Slab vs full foundation?
Attic vs cathedral?
Light fixtures included?
Fan controls?
Labor rate in your area $25 hr/$65hr?
In this area, somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000, and I could of added at least 20 more variables. It depends on the house and the location.
