i have a 12 by 20 patio when we got this house it was a crack up raise in places we want to level it.Not remove it if all possible cause it has a out building where the roof conects too it.I know the poor was bad and the tree in the back yard is the cause.I was going to roto hammer all the cracks about 6″ on each side dig down abot 12″ fill with sand and repour the cracks. Then i was going to use 2X2 redwood and make squares of 6ft.X6foot and pour ove the patio.I was going to put down plastic sheeting frist then pour.Does anyone know of a better way or is then something i am forgetting to do before i pour.Keep in mind that the most i can go is 3″think.

First thing first.
Is the tree still there?
Next, all that you have described, as to your intent, is basically not cost effective.
Better to cut out the area supporting whatever structure that you have identified and remove the rest, totally.
Install a proper base, staying well clear of that tree(rule of thumb, whatever area that the upper branches, cover so do the roots)because if you cover the roots, it will crack and lift again even if you put concrete 2 feet thick.
Dividing the area is a good idea and will help to prevent cracking as a result of the large area in question. It also makes your pours easier. Simply lay out your 2 x 2s and pour first one half and then the other half. Makes finishing easier too.
