I was at my local Sears hardware and they had a 12″ professional line sliding miter saw marked down from $580 to $225(new in the box). Any experience with this saw and how does it stack up to the competition? Is it worth the wait for a better saw? Sears said they are making way for a newer model.

Aren't you being overly generous? Check out this baby.
6.5HP and only draws 12AMPs @120V. That's 221watts/HP !!! vs, the 746-760 draw one would normally see. My calcs on that one are 1.9HP at best. No wonder Sears is being sued for over rating it's tools..

They calculate their horsepower "under no load speed". What good is any power tool under no load? Its like saying my chainsaw generates 5 HP if I dont start it up. You'll get blisters that way.
If it's anything like the Craftsman 10" chop box we had at Habitat, a good secondary use is that of a boat anchor. I own the Hitachi 10" w/lazer guide and it's a wonderful tool. A close second, or perhaps #1 would be the Makita - haven't heard too many bad reports on that one.
