Craftsman Propane Powered weed whacker

maddog3 | Posted in General Discussion on May 2, 2009 02:28am

I dunno, seems like a good idea, hard to tell when your running low on fuel though,
the video is kinda boring too, I would rather hear it running, than the dude repeating himself

I’ll keep my Stihl for a while

Barb does all my weed control the old fashioned way. It's all part of her $60 a week allowance.

One thing most people might not know. In certain areas where there is a problem with low air quality they are trying to phase out two cycle engines.

I grew up in LA and just about everyone has a gardener and they use a lot of two cycle engines. Trying to regulate them is really difficult.

There are so many sources of pollution in LA and there are so many people that they are looking at every source.

OK I can nderstand the problems of living in a very large city, sp lets say everyone eventually switches to "angels breath " propane.
What happens to all those disposable propane canisters, since we're trying to clean the place up.oh that's right the instructions are on each little can .........."dispose of properly".

I ran out of map gas today and threw out the canister. I don't think I can recycle it unless I run it down to the metal recycling place myself.

I do have a small pile of metal to take there. I'll go dig it out of the trash can ;^)

They are trying to clean up the air. I don't think it will happen in areas where there is decent air quality.

But technology developed in those areas could be good for everyone.

I do like the way it starts better than a 2 cycle. I had a Stilh weed eater that never did start well. I ended up throwing it out and bought an electric one. Starts every time.

My Stihl chainsaw starts every time. I really like that saw. But lately I've been using my Milwaukee electric one. It's really nice to just pull the trigger. Especially in the tree. The cord comes in handy to tie it off in the tree. I just hang it from the cord. I throw my MTs out too, no big deal, I got a new recycle can on wheels, County delivered and charged me $42, so I use it for storing dry dog food, I also doubt that this area would become as congested as Chicago, but if it does I'm sure we'll all be told what else to change in our lives I like most of my Stihl stuff, but one saw was a bit sluggish so I threw the spark screen out, runs like a champ now.

popawheelie,I refill those cylinders with a little adapter and a 5 gallon propane bottle. Doesn't fill them but about 2/3's but it's real cheap. Adapter came from either Northern or Harbor Freight.KK

          1. collarandhames | May 03, 2009 05:33am | #14

Re filling can be a dangerous buisness.  Propane can burn it's so cold.

Ran a propane truck for a while.  the 250 liter tanks runs the BBQ for the last three years,, probably four more!

It wouldn't pay for me. I don't use that much. But thanks anyway."There are three kinds of men: The one that learns by reading, the few who learn by observation and the rest of them have to pee on the electric fence for themselves."Will Rogers

I think its a great idea:no more mixing oill & gas, no more stinky exhaust from the oil, no need to keep different mixes around,  No more fuel going bad in storage.

BUT..... How do they take care of lubrication if there is no oil in the gas?

      maddog3 | May 03, 2009 08:48pm | #17

you still have to keep engine oil in it, so 4 cycle air cooled engine oil, I like the idea of propane , and I would probably buy one if it wasn't only at Sears, because so far it just looks like another gadget.but I kept the 2 cycle gas storage simple buy only buying one brand of equipment, using fuel stabilizer, and keeping the tanks empty when I put them up.

I'm wondering if the propane exhaust would attract mosquitos ? like those big $$ mosquito traps.
