Creating the door frame for a shower

What is the process for creating the door frame for the shower? I am buying the door, but do I run 2 X 4 vertically along the sides? Should I use metal instead? Does the door come with parts for the frame?

I've never seen a shower door that did not come with a frame. Of course, the frame needs to be mounted to something substantial in the adjacent walls.
David
two kinds of shower doors-
frame and frameless.
Find what you are getting and provide blocking or whatever is necessary for it's fastening.
And please, get this plan all figured out b/4 you start-or go any further. All material and procedures should be planned out and alternatives available b/4 the start of a job.
yes Calvin, you are exactly right. I want to know this before I proceed any further. I am in the process of waiting for Oatey Corners to be delivered to me, will take another week. I have to put down the liner and the second coat of cement/mortar, but since I am going to need to figure out the door situation, I am tackling that now. I am going to buy a MAAX door.

Something like this. So there is a kit. I should probably buy the door and see what is the what huh?
David
Here's the install pdf-it'll have the parts, directions of install and the openings required to fit w/o a filler pc.
READ it CAREFULLY b/4 you proceed.
I didn't see the install PDF, did you email it?
oops

The pdf images are too blurry and hard to see. Not sure why, but none-the-less, thank you anyway.
I tried to take pictures and I hope this turns out ok. I have to put in the shower door frame before I go any further. So here is the question :
1) Do I need to place vertical 2 X 4's where the curb is? The first picture has NO 2 X 4 running vertically and the second has one in place. So which is it?
2) Also, IF it does need it, do I need to place a metal lath around the 2 X 4 ? Or do I put some concrete board around that as well? (I am asumming it is tiled and the door gets drilled into it.)
David
Try again, don't us a phone to view and you know you can increase the size (using the pdf tools that appear).
And guess what I found?
that damn clothes pole bracing hook you needed for your closet.
One chrome-still in the bag with screws.
go figger.
I can't believe you found it and I can't believe you remembered! I will try and take better pictures.
you still need that hook?
I usually don't just let something as one of a kind like this go,
but..........
What the f.
David
You'll need to study the pdf of the door and find the opening you need per their size chart.
Then figure backwards.............for what you need to do to frame for the door.
Yes to wood frame (to fasten door "track" mounting hinge or track)
Yes to pan liner run up that framing as well as over the curb.
Yes to cement board over frame and perhaps over the curb (DON"T NAIL THROUGH LINER)
Finished opening equals called out dimension in the door pdf.
Here's another pdf for you-Oatey liner install.
Make not of the curb detail (they mud up and over the curb-beware-you don't want to be thicker than the walls on either side of the curb (door opening).

Here are some better pictures - showing the shower door side(s) 2 X 4's (in grey) and without. I am not sure if I need the side 2 X 4 or not for the door or better off without them. The SIDES are just placed there for show, they are not the actual pieces of 2 X 4 that would go there running perpendicular to the curb.
David
ok, I'll send you a PM with my email address, give me your shipping information.
