I don't get the creosote
but every couple days I build the fire, lite it (top down burn), walk over to the sink and dampen a half sheet of paper towel.
saunter back over and wipe the glass down .............
Now, this is a tulikivi masonry heater-small glass in the doors, so no real big wipe down.
Also, use a dry sheet of newspaper (with type, no color), crumbled up-wipe it back and forth-not as quick and maybe some glaze soot falls on the floor-most contained on the paper.
Toss both methods into the firebox.
I've never used chemical cleaner.

would it still work if we mosey back over or jog or skip?
mosey yes, jog/skip-sure.
The trick is to get back b/4 the kindling starts to crackle-worst case.
the glass gets too warm to wipe.
There are commercial solutions, but you can also roll your own.

And while the first site suggests burning off creosote with a hot fire, you'd better be sure your glass is well conditioned ("broken in") first or you could break it literally.

Other than these, try googling "fireplace glass cleaner"

Wet a newspaper with ordinary glass cleaner and dip it into the ashes and then use this on the glass followed up by normal cleaning. Works wonders.
I use Easy Off oven cleaner. Same ingredient as the wood stove/fireplace glass cleaner (sodium hydroxide), but half the price.
just occasional use or do you use it for heating?
occasional, any of what others have said.
If used for heating, a hammer for the glass and replacing with a steel plate works well......
