Is the traditional paint treatment for crown molding to match the ceiling or the rest of the room’s trim?
Thanks, Mischa

Most often it matches the ceiling. The ceiling in flat white, the crown in semi gloss white.
The difference in sheen helps to set off the molding nicely...buic
Edit to add, but as in many things, there's a wide range of what's done, and no real "right or wrong", just different tastes.

I paint trim and crown the same semigloss--which is almost always a pure white. Ceilings are usually white too. If the trim is stained, the crown is stained.
If I had a situation where the trim was painted--say black, for instance--my first instinct would be to paint the crown black as well. I think it would depend on how it all looks together.
