Any suggsetions on how to install crown and not block the cathedral ceiling in the man cave/office? The angle of the ceiling is too steep and I can’t do a return.

Framing the floor inside a crawlspace foundation keeps a gable-end addition close to grade.

Man cave, crown moulding? I didnt think man caves had crown moulding. You're not putting in curtains too are you?
No curtains just lead shields in the windows to keep the aliens from listening in. ;-)Constructing in metric...

You've redeemed yourself.
Any suggestions on how to install crown and not block the cathedral ceiling in the man cave/office. The ceiling angle is too steep to do a 45 degree return.

good question im facing a similar situation... two different type of crown meeting up to one another... not sure what to do.
Doing the two different sizes should work out pretty well if you cope the smaller one against the larger.George Patterson
Why can't you do a return? Just back each side up a little. You could even make it a 45 degree return as opposed to a 90. This would allow the kill piece to "follow" the slope of the ceiling a little better. The pic is kind of big. EDIT - OK its really big, sorry about that.

Would you happen to have that photo in a larger file?

how do you cut crown that big? portable saw mill?"it aint the work I mind,

I think I would bisect the "horizontal to vault" angle and miter the crown so the bottom edge of the crown runs up the vault angle, then add a plum cut at the vault ridge. You have to cut the miter in a differnt plane than a usual return. This is a different situation, but might help you visualize the kind of cuts you need to make (imagine the crown on the vault in this picture being like the horizontal crown in your picture and think of the small transition piece being like the small vault run you could follow with crown):
Man cave = wood ceiling = no crown.

"You cannot work hard enough to make up for a sloppy estimate."
Do you plan on continuing the crown to the right side or is just stopping there?
How about instead of end of run make it middle. Might be a way-to-complex solution....your call.
Looks like it might be clear on alder? Glue a piece on the back and cut out notch at vault angle. Keep it 1/8 - 1/4" above ceiling so minor irregularity doesn't show. Squirt a little clear on it and *presto*
Kinda like this................

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Peter, Thanks for taking the time to do the drawing of the crown notch. I think that is the way to go. Much appreciated!Constructing in metric...
