I just saw this exhibit at the Portland Museum of Art (Portland ME, that is). It is spectacular. John Bisbee, a sculptor who teaches at Bowdoin College, makes astounding scupltures from ordinary steel brads, nails and spikes. It will be there until March 23. Trust me when I say you’ll love it.
The only problem is that after seeing his scuptures, the Monets, Picassos, etc. are a big letdown.

Here’s an example, made from 12 inch spikes, carefully arranged on the floor.
Here’s another, held on the wall by….are you ready?
Piffin screws!

Neat stuff.
It's on a larger scale, but outside the Science Museum of Minnesota there's a big lizard made of 12,500 railroad spikes welded together. http://public.fotki.com/MNCapital/twincitiespagecom-2/saint_paul_features/feature_iggy/

We were there Thursday. Got to talk with the artist - nice guy. He said he doesn't sketch anything, just gets an idea and starts working.
Have you been to the Bowdoin's Art Museum since they renovated it? That's worth the visit too.

Not yet, but I hear it is pretty nice.
I took a photo of this 'Industrial Artistry' at the Tate Britain in London a few years ago.
Neat!
