Hey Grant, almost done. The roof will sit a little higher when the crown goes under it.
The base will be going together as soon as I get back out and cut it up..it will add another 2′ to the OA high..gets me up to almost 6′ , depending on how deep the saddle notch for the roof is made.
Just wanted to give ya a view as it is going up. Water table is made, cove scotia goes under that, that is the break down and re-asemble point for the base, the roof will have a crown under it, perm attached to the sheathing. That then can drop over the waist part with the louvers and be screwed thru for final attachment after copper.
Heavy SOB already, and too big for the space I have in the shop..LOL.
It’s all fun tho’.

Reply - looks good. I'd like to get it installed this coming week if possible. That's all I lack to finish that job.

I should be coming up Tues. or Wed at the latest, I just gotta figure out a crown profile that will fly..been side tracked what with keping ahead of the weather and such. Damm that was a cold snap, even for a Yankee like me.
I just now got the base whacked together and watching glue dry as the Eagles try. Tomorrow I can add all the fiddly bits of bracing and rocket booster separation joints so yall can get up in thirds..you want I should cut the 12/12 saddle in the base and give ya internal cleatage to attach thru to the deck?
I'm guessing that it's getting step flashed so I could rough out that ridge cut here, but I know what "Dumb Framers" build ( LOL, C'mon Diesel...)and the pitch could be anything but 12/12.

He dropped it off and took some pictures of it this morning. My guys are installing the base as I type. I'll hopefully get the roof done this weekend.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
I got to running behind and had to cramma-jamma it. Between my thumb healing up, crazy weather ( it was too big to do it all in my shop) and then my back went kaflooey..I just plain didn't get to get any pics w/camera. Like Gman said, I did get two with my phone this morning..but I didn't have time to email them to me yet.
Grant needs to charge for Chiropractic work, he saved my day this morning..cracked me good. I then finished up that flat seam roof odds and ends relativly painfree..but it got ugly driving home..and I had to make an emergency stop at my Dr. Backcracker.
He did all he could do, it just kept going back out of adjustment..normally he don't open the office on Sat. but he wants me back tomorrow, and he has a 30 mile drive just to come in and see me..yeah, it's that bad.
Anyway, I'll be out where my phone works tomorrow and try to remember to get my pics sent to myself..I took some of the final of the flatseam job as well, for the customer.
Grant, I still need that price diff for the downspout please...and be CAREFUL with that jar of Summer I left ya, it'll warm you up more than once..Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Ok, here ya go.
Its all a loose fit and not screwed together or plumbed up. It has to go up in 3 pieces, and I had to leave some slop for the installers. So I guess Grant has the copper on by now, and its on its way up somewhere..LOL
A good painter can make it sweet. NMJ to paint.

All the insataller needs to do is cut the roof angle and cleat/flash it, then the louvered waist slips over the base, and is screwed through the trex water table. Then the copper clad roof can be set atop and squared, leveled and screwed through a cove type crown that is permanantly glued and screwed under the Advantec substrate..I hadds figure a way to make it idiot proof and not screw through the copper clad..other wise it would have to be clad on the roof after assembly..that sucker is 3 pcs for ease of me getting from my shop to Grant's and its also pretty heavy.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Looking forward to a slight design tweak. I see now I should make the roof..higher up..its just a little too close to the arch top to my eye.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

yah. take a couple inches off the base and add to the face for better proportion
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Actually, the roof could have been installed a little higher..I made the 3 sections so one slips on the previous, and then screwed together through the trim. Other wise it would have been next to impossible to install.
Once I decided to use the gable vents, it skewed my dimensions a little and was trying to keep close to a sketchup pic I had from Grant for the general look.
Considering my back was so bad during that fab. I had to work an hour then layout for an hour, it was a miracle I even got it made.
In the future I can tweak it a little more and make the installers part even more fool proof...Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Nice, how'd you do the louvers?http://www.tvwsolar.com
I went down to the lobby
To make a small call out.
A pretty dancing girl was there,
And she began to shout,
"Go on back to see the gypsy.
He can move you from the rear,
Drive you from your fear,
Bring you through the mirror.
He did it in Las Vegas,
And he can do it here."
I cheated.
I bought em.
They are vinyl. Rectangular gable vents screwed on from the inside..

How did you bond the lightning rod?
How did you bond the lightning rod
There's no lightning rod.
The finial is made from sheet copper and is riveted on.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
Excuse me but if you put a big copper pecker, sticking up on the highest point of a house it IS a lightning rod.
If you don't provide a ground path, the lightning will do it for you.
Just a thought, but that base and trim above would have been a good spot for Azek. At the very least I would have painted it before it went UP there.
At the very least I would have painted it before it went UP there.
This is a "count every penny" new home builder. They have a painter that's bid on the job. They wanted my "best" price. You don't get paint with the "best" price. They're lucky Duane had the other trim already painted.http://www.quittintime.com/ View Image
He and or the painter were not thinking that process through. Cupola's are a real nice touch on the right home or barn.
I made it, and the base is Advantech, the trim is Trex, any wood like the corners (WRC) is primed.
Paint was , as Grant said, not our job.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

I like that trex trim thing. Just starting to hear more about it used in a trim application. FYI, my lumber yard has just started carrying Trex shims. I can think of alot of applications for them.
I had intended to have it be almost all trex. I ran into issues with it not being true enough for my likes. A 5/4 x6 was fatter in the center than the edges, and it would have required more finish milling than I felt was worth it. So I'm not sold on it as a wood replacement for much more than decks and ripped, then machined into watertables and sills.
The weight was another issue, Trex weighs a ton compared to WRC.
I try to make a product that won't disintegrate if weathering happens from lack of painting, but ya gotta draw the line somewhere if ya have a budget constraint. I'd say it was a good composition of materials for longevity.
With pocket screws and great glues, judicious use of new longlife materials, things like that should last quite some time.
I've repaired and repainted wood louvers, and I'd not wish that on anyone, if it's avoidable. I spent a solid month re-habbing a bell tower from an old school house..ya don't forget the hell of that quickly.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
