I have always wanted to build a cupola for my stairshop…but just never got around to doing it. Had I built one…it would have been directly under the tree that went through my roof.
Well now that the shop is being added on to….I feel that it not only needs a cupola…but a pair of them.
I have these underway right now. I will trim the cupolas out with cedar and am going to put standing seam copper roofs on them. These cupolas need to be big to proportion to the extra long building I have now. The bases are 44 inches square…the upper is 34 inches square. The louvers are not on..but will be fake ones.
The upper unit is going to be raised 3 inches from the base..and then a mitered 1 x 8 will provide a sloping surface for water to go over the base unit.

Those are nice .
I want one for my shop ,only it has to be large enough to accomidate the shot gun so we have a warm dry deer stand .
Nice Stan, as I was reading I was visioning something that you would build a set of curved stairs to, so as to go up and look out over your empire!
Then I realized that you can do that with the flying machine!

Those are gonna be nice
but keep the pic. coming as you progress
Is the lower skin MDO?
Jon Blakemore
Jon: Its 3/4 inch mdo. I am going to build an innere cdx box to go on the roof. The flashing will go on it.
I am planning on painting the lower half of the cupola....but still have the option of putting matching cedar siding on it. I havent made up my mind yet.

good looking , stan..
have you considered Azek or some composite trim so you don't have to paint it in the future ?Mike Smith Rhode Island : Design / Build / Repair / Restore
Mike: I did consider it..but my whole building is cedar and I dont mind staining every five years.
I already have the cedar on the cupolas...just havent taken any pictures yet.
