I seldom get to take pictures of my stairways after my clients are moved into their homes. These people were kind enough to send me this picture today.
My mind is back 100% to building stairways….ok….mayber 75%…that gyrocopter is competing hard for my time. <G>
I had an amish guy custom turn the balusters and newels. The balusters have 2.25 inch bases….the bottom newels are 6 inch…the other 6 newels upstairs are 4.5 inch.
My tread returns extend behind the riser brackets. I like to have the front of the riser bracket appear to flow on down through the tread return and line up with the rear of the riser bracket below it. It looks so much nicer….and its just an old detail that people 150 years ago had time to do.

Stan, thats rather stunning to say the least.. nontheless I would rather take a ride on your gyrocoptor then walk up that staircase. stinky
Beautiful work Stan...
Nice work Stan. Attention ot detail, nice....very nice.
How do you like this one in a home we built?
I don't have time to do the actual work anymore. My framer, my cabinet and trim man and myself worked to put this together.
Very nice stairs!
Do you build laminated stringers to do that type of stair?
I just finshed rough framing a single curved staircase but it was enclosed underneath the same as the photo of Stan Foster's staircase and used the curved walls to support each tread and riser.

Very nice stairs!
Do you build laminated stringers to do that type of stair?
Yes, onsite and in place. 1/4" luan or equal with contact cement and temp supports.
Txlandlord: Nice set of stairs.......
Stan
very nice, did you do the paneling on the curved walls as well?
Arman: Nope....just the curved stairway.

Stan, I'm impressed. I'd buy those stairs if I could afford them!
