   There is, of course, already a fairly large outfit called "Ryan Homes".  I hope you're just using "Ryan" as an example.

   Yep, Ryan is my first name so I was using it as an example.  Ryan Homes has a farily large presence in my region.  I'll be using my last name but out of paranoia I don't like posting it on the internet.  I know my question is somewhat trivial, but I'm just curious what you all think about the perception of a company called **** Custom Homes vs **** Construction Company in the eyes of both upper middle class home buyers and those in charge of hiring for light commercial projects.  My guess is that it really doesn't matter but it's always worth asking before I make it official.

   Part of the answer simply has to do with how it rolls off the tongue, of course.

   No matter what you pick, it willl not be ideal.  "Ryan Construction" might scare away some HOs as being a bit "impersonal", but "Custom Homes" will obviously make commercial clients suspect that your skills are in a different area.  You could of course try "Ryan Home and Commercial Construction", but it's a mouthful.  And a "cutsie" name like "Ryan Building Solutions" would leave many wondering what you do.

   Partly it depends on whether you want the name to attract business vs just not scare it away -- to what extent do you contact them vs waiting for them to contact you?
