Replaced windows in a house last febuary. Vinyl siding house that her husband had done 20 years earlier. terrible job he did and I had to install new pellas in the openings. had to break metal around perimeter, and up to J-channel of siding.
I had to apply caulk between the transition of metal and J- channel.I thought we did a good job seeing as to how the existing J-channel was done poorly. We even wet it down and applyed it with great care.
Well I wait a week and invoice her for the balance, 2 weeks go by and had to send her a reminder. She sends check with no mention of job, just apoligizing for being late with the payment. 2 months go by , she calls and says she does not like the aluminum trim around the windows. i go back and spend a day tearing it out and replacing it. Ask her to look at it and she says fine and then goes in the house.
I just received a letter 3 weeks after that and she says she is not happy with the trim again.
What is this?? I have been more then gracious and understanding, but it seems like she is always going to find something.
What would you do??

Did you tell her that her husband did a poor job? Maybe she thought that he was the best siding man in the world. Remember her husband did not charge her when he did it and now you want to be paid.
She admits that her husband did a fair job , but at the time they could not afford a siding installer.
I am thinking of offering her to tear out siding around windows- retrim and apply siding. At a cost of course.?

Have you gone out to the house, and asked her to specifically point out what it is that she doesn't like?
If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again.
yes, She does not like that the j- channel stands proud of the windows and there is caulk between the J- and the window. She wants it to look like the others but the others are differant windows and beside that i was never told to match the existing windows. They are vinyl and these are pellas The caulk job has been redone, like i said and it looks very good considering the siding job and askewed J channel around it.
Not sure what to say.....I wouldn't want my J caulked to my windows either. I'd want it done right.
Can't tell if I'm reading this right. U using new const. with fins...or replacements?
New const. shoulda had the siding peeled back.....old windows w/fins removed.....new popped in....FLASHED......trimmed...wrapped....J-channeled.....peice back in old siding.
I'm guessing U tried to be a nice guy and save her a few bucks on doing it the right...and more expensive...way....and now you're finding out why the right way is the only way!
No good deed goes unpunished! And...she got a job that relies on caulk. Not good for either of ya....since I'm also guessing that the original budget was so low....you barely made enough to cover the first trip! Now you're fixing this cheapo install out of your own pocket.
I'd ask exacty what she wanted done. Get it signed off in writting. Fix it...and get the hell out.....and remember how much the cheap way cost ya. Next time....turn down similar jobs.....if the money to do it right ain't there.
Unless......I've guessed totally wrong...which is entirely possible! Jeff "That's like hypnotizing chickens........."
